HTC One M8 vs HTC One Mini 2

Versus One mini and one not so mini, but which One is the one for you?

 by james rogerson

In one of the least surprising moves of the year HTC has followed up its remarkable, if awkwardly named, HTC One M8 with the even more awkwardly named HTC One Mini 2.
This was all but a given from the moment the One M8 was announced, but the specs of its mini sibling were less clear.
So what's changed? And how do the two handsets stack up?

Screen

The HTC One M8 has a gorgeous 5 inch 1080p display. As you'd expect the HTC One Mini 2 has a smaller screen, though it's still far from tiny at 4.5 inches. But as well as being smaller it's also lower resolution, coming in at 720p.

That's still enough for it to deliver crisp visuals, in fact it's roughly on par with the Retina display on the iPhone 5S, but put it side by side with the HTC One M8 and the differences are noticeable.

Design

At first glance the HTC One Mini 2 looks every bit as premium as its larger sibling, with the same brushed metal back elevating it above most other smartphones at least in the design stakes.
But look closer and it's not quite the masterpiece that the One (M8) is. While the metal of the HTC One M8 covers the edges too, the One Mini 2 has a plastic rim, though it's only particularly noticeable at the top and bottom, as the metal back curves up into the sides, leaving just a narrow strip of plastic.

The HTC One Mini 2 is also thicker than the HTC One M8, which is a bit of a surprise. The One M8 is already far from slim at 9.4mm, but the Mini 2 bumps that up to 10.6mm.
Though it is at least lighter than the HTC One M8 and the other dimensions are lesser too, which is as you'd expect given the mini moniker.
The front of the One Mini 2 is much the same as that of its big brother, with the standout feature being the speaker grills above and below the screen, speakers which deliver the same Boomsound experience as the M8.

CPU and RAM

The HTC One M8 is every bit the powerhouse you'd expect it to be given its flagship status. It has a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB of RAM giving it impressive performance.
Unfortunately the HTC One Mini 2 isn't in the same league, with its 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.
We haven't yet experienced any performance issues with the device, but don't expect it to go toe-to-toe with the HTC One M8.

Apple iPhone 8 specifications may not have been finalized yet Initially, there were many reports suggesting the iPhone 8 launch would get delayed due to some manufacturing issue. Proving all the speculations wrong, last week Apple sent out invites for the launch event that is to take place on September 12. As usual, the name of the product was not mentioned in the official invite. However, judging from the company's past launching pattern, we are quite sure the iPhone 8 will get launched at the event. Now, with just 4 days left until the launch date, a report by The Investors has revealed a shocking piece of information. According to the publication, the specs line up of the iPhone 8 is not finalized yet. The website claims to have obtained the information from an anonymous representative from Apple's local supplier. The supplier says that the shipments of the 2017 iPhones started only from late August. He further added that its firms are yet to get exact details on t...

Qualcomm confirms: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will boast Snapdragon 835 Soc

Qualcomm confirms: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will boast Snapdragon 835 Soc Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is only a week away from an official launch and after the release of several videos and poster teasers from Xiaomi it has now been confirmed by Qualcomm that the upcoming device will indeed house Snapdragon 835 chipset for advanced processing. The release of all of this information is quite a proof that Xiaomi is trying to gain as much attention as possible for the successful launch of its flagship device. Chinese division of the world's most popular mobile processor manufacturer published on its Weibo Page that Mi Mix 2 will boast the best processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 835. Mi Mix 2's predecessor Mi Mix was equipped with Snapdragon 821 which was the best processor from Qualcomm when the Mi Mix was released. Mi Mix 2 boasting the Snapdragon 835 is not much of a surprise since the device will retail in high-mid price segment. However, it is quite conclusive that Xiaomi does n...

HTC One E8 Review

HTC One E8 Review Introduction Not long after HTC made the aluminum-clad HTC One M8 public, we started hearing about a lookalike One device that would copy the M8's look and internals, but forgo metal altogether, and instead opt for a cheaper, polycarbonate shell. Subsequently released as the One E8 , it seems to us that HTC's plastic flagship likely has one purpose: to allow the company to experiment with a different approach towards the flagship model, and perhaps even make a few new fans in the process. Apart from the body, however, and the inclusion of a higher resolution, 13-megapixel camera, much everything else about the E8 mirrors the M8's spec sheet. But is that a recipe for success or disaster? Time to find out. Design It is what it is: the One E8 is simply the One M8 re-done in polycarbonate....
