Beats now officially belongs to Apple

Beats now officially belongs to Apple UPDATED  Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine joining Cook and Co. Coming to Cupertino After weeks of speculation and boasting videos, Apple officially announced it has purchased Beats to the tune of $3 billion (about £1.79b, AU$3.25b). The deal includes  Beats Music , the company's streaming subscription music service, as well as its Beats Electronics hardware and audio software side. Apple will hand over a purchase price of $2.6 billion (about £1.55b, AU$2.81b) and about $400 million (about £239m, AU$433m) in equity vested over time. As part of the deal, Beats Co-Founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will join Apple. Beats will continue to operate independently, though naturally synergies between the companies will arise. "Music is such an important part of all of our lives and holds a special place within our hearts at Apple," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a press release. "That's why we have kept investing in music and ar

Toshiba unveils trio of tablets, including $110 Android 4.4 KitKat tablet

Toshiba unveils trio of tablets, including $110 Android 4.4 KitKat tablet Summary:  The Excite Go is a budget 7-inch device, while the 8-inch and 10-inch Encore 2 models run Windows 8.1 and start at $200. Following HP's lead with its $100 7 Plus Android tablet, Toshiba has launched three new tablets that emphasize price over fancy features. At $109.99, the Excite Go (pictured above) is a little pricier than its HP competition, but it offers a couple of key advantages. It ships with the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat, while the 7 Plus sticks with the older 4.2.2 Jellybean. The Toshiba also provides twice the amount of built-in storage: 16GB versus the HP's 8GB. The decision to go cheap with the Excite Go could work out well for Toshiba, as the 7 Plus is already out of stock at HP's online store. Potential buyers will have to wait, however, as the Excite Go isn't shipping until early July. That availability is the same for Toshiba's new Windows 8.1 sla

Panasonic issues Toughbook battery recall, cites potential fire hazard

Panasonic issues Toughbook battery recall, cites potential fire hazard Summary:  The issue is with battery packs included in the Toughbook CF-H2 tablet PC series manufactured from June 2011 through May 2012. By  Natalie Gagliordi   Panasonic  is warning customers  of its Toughbook line of tablet computers of a faulty battery pack that could overheat to the point of ignition.  The issue is with battery packs included in the Toughbook CF-H2 tablet PC series manufactured from June 2011 through May 2012, as well as those sold as accessories or used as replacements during servicing. Panasonic is of course replacing the packs free of charge. Here's how they said to check if your Toughbook is one of those effected: Check if the label on the tablet shows "Panasonic CF-H2" — if it does, turn off the device and remove the battery. In addition, check the battery pack model number and manufacturing lot number, as only packs showing both numbers need to be repl

HTC One M8

Home   News by technology   HTC One M8 Ace release date, news and rumors HTC One M8 Ace release date, news and rumors IN DEPTH  The plastic fantastic One M8 By  John McCann    Can HTC make the One M8 into an Ace phone?  (credit: ifanr) The  HTC One M8  is an excellent smartphone - so good in fact it's one of only a handful of mobiles to garner a 5 star TechRadar review and claim the title of the  best smartphone  you can buy in 2014. It's odd then, that we're hearing reports of a new variant of the One  M8  which HTC is apparently making worse on purpose. Considering we already have the  HTC One Mini 2  as well as reports for the even more premium  One M8 Prime , yet another handset looking to steal the show from the M8 appears confusing, not to mention rather Samsung-esque. What is the HTC One M8 Prime? Some reports have referred to the plastic M8 as the " HTC One M8 Vogue Edition ", which is pretty terrible and we hope that particular

Hands on: LG G3 review

Hands on: LG G3 review Super screen, metallic skin - has LG leapt to the top of the pile? "We love Steve Jobs, but he was wrong." That was the battle cry from LG's head of smartphone planning, Dr Ramchan Woo, when talking about the screen on the new LG G3, a step upwards in terms of screen resolution. He said that Apple had got it wrong; that the average user needs 500+PPI to appreciate the sharpness of a good phone screen, in the same way that art books offer a crispness to fully feel the pictures. The screen is the dominating factor in an improved chassis Where most phones you'll have seen are now running Full HD 1080p screens, LG has now stuffed a huge amount more pixels into the display. A 5.5-inch offering with a 2560 x 1440 resolution means a 538PPI sharpness is something you won't have seen if you haven't headed into the Chinese market recently. But the LG G3 is more than just a new screen. It's an overhauled UI, a revamped desi

Ebay

Ebay breach update: user details posted on Pastebin are 'fake' Official words from e-commerce website One of the biggest cyber-heists of all time Ebay has denied that details pasted on anonymous text site Pastebin that purportedly came from a stolen database were genuine. A spokesperson told the Guardian that, "the published lists we have checked so far are not authentic eBay accounts". The auction site suffered one of the biggest cyberattack of all time after a database of up to 145 million of its users was apparently stolen. Someone provided a sample of more than 12,600 entries coming from a database of Asian-Pacific eBay users and containing their emails, names, phone numbers, data of birth and addresses. Suspiciously cheap The asking price for the entire database was 1.45 Bitcoin (or 1 Bitcoin for 100 million users); that's about £445 (US$750, AU$813). The list page on Pastebin has been viewed nearly 30,000. Arguably not a lot for a

apple want beats

Why does Apple want Beats? So it won't kill iTunes Not so much about the headphones, it seems Since word broke that Apple was planning to buy Beats, just about everyone has had an opinion on what part of the Beats business Cupertino is after. According to a mysterious new source, the actual reason is that Apple wants to operate Beats as a standalone streaming service. Why not just add it to iTunes to create a mega music service of its own? Apparently Apple is "deeply conscious" that iTunes still makes a lot of money for the music industry (despite the fact that digital sales are declining) and it doesn't want that compromised, according to TechCrunch's insider. The plan is therefore to offer a Beats streaming service for $5 a month that will give artists a higher slice of revenue, while keeping iTunes in place for the time being. Keep their heads ringin' Meanwhile, a separate report reckons Apple is primarily after Dre and Jimmy Iovi

Half-Life 3

Half-Life 3 confirmed by ex-Valve employee Apparently it's 'kind of public knowledge'  IT'S HAPPENING Half-Life 3 is being worked on right now and Left 4 Dead 3 is also shaping up quite nicely, according to Counter-Strike co-creator and ex-Valve man, Ming Le. In a Twitch interview with goRGNtv, Le was asked about the existence of Half-Life 3. "I don't think I can talk about that, to be honest," he said, before going ahead and talking about it. "I think it's kind of public knowledge, that people know that it is being worked on. And so if I were to say that yeah, I've seen some images, like some concept art of it, that wouldn't be big news to be honest. "I guess I could say that I did see something that looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe," said Le. "And I mean it wouldn't surprise anyone if I said they're doing it, they're working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I'd say I d

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 review

Hands on: Microsoft Surface Pro 3 review Can this laptop-tablet hybrid replace your laptop?   Our early verdict "Microsoft says that this hybrid can replace your laptop, and it might do the trick, but not without that optional Type Cover." For Sharper, larger screen Improved Type Cover Great stylus support Against Still quite pricey Type Cover optional Can run hot In the case of Microsoft's Surface Pro 3, the old adage just might turn out to be true: third time's a charm. The new laptop-tablet hybrid has been billed as Microsoft's realization of the vision it painted years ago: the ultimate, no-compromise device that lets users consume and create content in equal measure. The result? After a few hours with the device, the Surface Pro 3 is pretty dang close. Microsoft has improved upon its pro-grade tablet in almost every way: a bigger, sharper screen, a thinner, lighter frame and the snappiest keyboard cov

Google
